Maybe it’s Michael’s Fault

Last week I posted on work ethic and working so hard for something that you wanted so badly that your body hurt when you were finished.  The post spoke about not sitting around and waiting for your dreams to come to you, but actually working to make those dreams a reality.  It included two videos from Ray Lewis and Kevin Garnett in which they talked about how hard they work to achieve their goals.

If that was not enough, today’s video is from arguably the greatest basketball player to ever play the game…Michael Jordan.  In it, he says that maybe it is his fault that today’s generation of basketball players do not work as hard as they should.  What?!  How could Michael Jordan be to blame for a lack of work ethic in an entire generation?  His point is actually valid and quite simple, he just made it look to easy.  Many young players today see professional athletes do amazing things and really think it is that easy.  They do not realize the hours of practice, the blood, sweat and tears that go into performing these feats of excellence.   However, anyone that saw Michael Jordan play knows that his fire and determination were the catalysts behind his impeccable skills.  His work ethic is what built his legendary skills and earned him all those championship rings.  Remember, this is a guy that got cut from his freshmen team and then used that as motivation to become the greatest ever.  So is Michael really to blame or is that just another excuse?  I know my answer, what’s yours?
